Microsoft to Force IE7 Update on Feb. 12

To my knowledge this will be the first time a software company reaches out and forces consumers to update their product.  Apparently MS is worried enough about security issues in IE6 that they are going to force an update to IE7. 

My general feeling is that it’ll be a good thing to get everyone up to date on their browsers, and it ought to hasten the day when IE6 is but a memory.  Frankly, the only people who shouldn’t be up to date at this point are those of us that really need to test using IE6 because not everyone has updated…

On the other hand, I find it slightly troubling that MS can even do this.  I really hate the notion of being “forced” to do anything (just ask my wife).

I’ve been contracting at a company in Waltham – I was both surprised and relieved to find my desktop came pre-configured to direct to Firefox.  Open source…open source…
